Combating Disinformation or Reinforcing Cognitive Bias: Effect of Weibo Poster’s Location Disclosure

This study conducted a controlled experiment to examine the impact of posters’ IP disclosure on perceptions Weibo users with different habits and information preferences explore whether such facilitates fight against disinformation or deepens cognitive biases. Results showed that location poster does influence users’ judgments authenticity consistency between long-term residence is not important for make about credibility information. The high level usage also has no effect judgment information, this may be related small difference in college students’ overall use Weibo. results information’s accuracy, logical coherence, absence bias, alignment their own views, majority opinion, trustworthiness its source are all statistically positively correlated
